Monthly literary events at Russian Bookshop, Waterstones Piccadilly, London
October 2, 2013

The first in the series, entitled “Brodsky in Britain, and Britain in Brodsky’ is taking place at 18:30 on Tuesday October 8, 2013. It is to be given by Valentina Polukhina, renowned Brodsky expert and biographer, who worked with Brodsky and knew him personally. The lecture will address the myriad of British influence in Josef Brodsky’s life and work, as well as the effect Brodsky made on his British contemporaries: from Brodsky’s reading of the English metaphysical poets, through to his relationships with W.H. Auden, Stephen Spender. This talk will also consider Brodsky’s own writings in English and its reception in the English-speaking world.
Together with the lecture, there will be an opportunity to see photos of the poet from a private collection and to hear a recording of Brodsky reading his ‘Great Elegy for John Donne’.
