Internship for journalists, editors and translators with Russian and English language skills

The Russian Literature online media resource has an opening for an internship programme for somebody who is interested in Russian literature and publishing. We wish to attract a well read and dedicated intern to assist us. This will include reading and evaluating Russian language fiction and non-fiction books, helping with data entry, communicating with publishers, attending industry events and interviewing Russian writers. Other language specific tasks are writing reviews, translating book abstracts from Russian into English, and monitoring the Russian language literary press. 

Interns will help keep our database of Russian / English translators, literary agents, book prizes up to date and will write about the major book related events for the web-site. Working in coordination with a professional editor, interns will gain valuable experience in the world of Russian literature and will be able to establish and / or enhance your reputation as a literary translator. 

Length of Internship:

Over the course of the summer, with the possibility to extend by mutual agreement.


Applicants are expected to:

- hold or be studying for a degree in literature or Slavic studies; 

- be able to demonstrate a knowledge of literary and non-fiction books; 

- have a passion for Russian literature;

- have a good command of both English and Russian (preferably bilingual or close);

- have demonstrable English writing skills; 

- have a critical eye.

Work hours:

Flexible. All work can be carried out at home and in your own time. Regular communications will be through Skype and by email.
