Moscow International Book Fair Where: Moscow When: Starts on the first Wednesday of September Established in 1977, Moscow International Book Fair is the largest book forum in Russia and the most significant event of the year. Scattered over some 30 000 sq. meters, it is a pulsating gathering of publishers, literary agents, wholesalers and service providers all meeting to exchange intellectual ideas and material contracts. Every day of the Fair is packed with workshops, round-table discussions, author readings, interviews and book signing sessions. It is a unique opportunity to gain first-hand experience of individual authors, enjoy the vibrant atmosphere and experience innovations moulding the future of the publishing world. Various forums address different burning topics relevant to the book industry. Digital technology and its industrial impact are discussed at the “Knigabite” (Book & Bite) forum. “Chitay-ka!” (Let’s read!) is the place for children’s literature and follow on discussions. Digital printing technologies are on display at the On-Demand area of the Fair. An integral part of the Moscow Book Fair is a literary festival. Every autumn tens of thousands of visitors come to meet their favourite authors at the Fair ground and at Agora. They are also attracted by the unique opportunity of buying books on a vast variety of subjects including those from independent publishers at a discounted price. A Guest of Honour is welcomed every year as a special guest signifying a country whose literature receives the most lavish acclaim.
