Vladimir Plungian

Vladimir Plungian is Professor of Linguistics at Moscow State University, Senior Research Fellow at the Russian Academy of Science and one of the main scholars engaged in the development of the Russian National Corpus.

Dr Plungian is a specialist in typology, African linguistics and corpus linguistics and has done field work in Mali and Dagestan, among other places. The author of more than 160 scientific papers published in Russian, English, French, German and other languages, Dr Plungian was awarded the Illuminer 2011 (in the Humanities category), for his book Why are languages so different?. The book is about languages, linguistic diversity and some fundamental findings in contemporary linguistics. It is written in Russian and intended for a general audience, including children.
